Jean Kwon
Jean Kwon, Esq. is a trilingual Korean American attorney (English, Spanish, Korean) with over 20 years of experience representing clients in criminal defense, civil litigation, family law, probate, immigration, and intellectual property matters in both California state and federal courts.
As the founder of Yonsei Law Firm, Ms. Kwon has dedicated her career to serving the Korean American community across Southern California, providing strong advocacy and compassionate legal counsel. Her practice has included high-stakes criminal defense cases ranging from homicide and gang-related crimes to DUI and drug offenses, as well as civil matters involving wrongful death, real estate disputes, employment law, and business litigation.
Ms. Kwon’s journey to the legal profession is a testament to resilience and determination. Born in Seoul, South Korea, and raised in Argentina from the age of 12, she worked long hours to help support her family while pursuing her education at night. Overcoming language barriers, financial hardship, and family tragedy, she persevered to achieve her dream of becoming an attorney and building a successful law practice in the United States.
She earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of La Verne College of Law and later pursued advanced legal studies, completing her LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law at the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law. Her global perspective, shaped by years living in South Korea, Argentina, and the United States, uniquely equips her to advise clients in cross-border and international business matters.
Beyond her legal practice, Ms. Kwon is an active leader in civic and community organizations. She has served as advisory counsel to the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles, the Korean American Federation of Orange County, the Korean American United Foundation, and the Korean American Grocers Association of California (KAGRO). Her dedication to public service has been recognized with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Corporation for National and Community Service and the President’s Volunteer Service Award, as well as commendations from the Cities of Los Angeles and Irvine.
